You’ve probably heard by now, but the California Drought is a big deal and a big problem. Your lawn might even be brown by now due to the 24% water reduction mandate, water waste patrols and the level 2 drought restrictions.

The Union Tribune  put together an excellent article that discusses how much water San Diego wastes, most notably on watering our lawns. The article points out that San Diego get’s just barely enough rain to avoid classification as a desert, yet you’d never know due to green lawns everywhere. Another eye opening statistic is that Australians, with a similar climate and population, use 1/3 as much water as San Diegans.

There are several ways to to reduce your water consumption, but the #1 one thing that you can do, that will also save you money in the long run, is replace your lawn grass with a drought tolerant landscape and/or artificial turf.

Now is a great time to take advantage of two Drought Tolerant Landscaping Rebates. You can take advantage of both rebates together, getting back as much as $3.50 per square ft of lawn grass replaced.
