Hot, dry weather is not only challenging in terms of water supply, but Southern California is in the midst of one of the most active fire seasons to date. Together, the City of San Marcos, Olivenhain Municipal Water District and Vallecitos Water District are offering a fire-wise landscape workshop.
Workshop attendees will learn about protecting their home from fires while reducing water used for irrigation by installing fire-resistive landscapes.
The free workshop will be taught by local California native plant expert and author Greg Rubin and will cover the basic principles of landscape zoning and hydration, with an overview of plant selection, installation, watering, and maintenance. The San Marcos Fire Department will also be on hand to share helpful fire protection and recovery tips.
