History of the Santa Fe Hills Christmas Bike Parade
By: Fred Hernandez

Why I started the Christmas bike parade in SFH? Short answer is why would we not do a bike parade. We live in such a nice community with very friendly neighbors.

We moved to Santa Fe Hills in 2010. As a way to get to meet other families with similar age kids and common interest, I started a facebook page called Santa Fe Hills Tots on Bikes for toddlers on balance bikes and first pedal bikes. As a kid, my favorite toy next to HotWheels was my Kent banana seat bike. The first Santa Fe Hills Tots on Bikes Christmas Parade was in 2012 and stemmed off of the events I’d try to set up for our very small group of toddlers throughout the year. The idea for the Christmas parade was to include as many of the neighborhood families as possible so the parade was open to not just our small group of toddlers on bikes. I remember my biggest concern was the bigger kids running over the smaller slower toddlers. True to our community, all the kids were very friendly and respectful and even helped encourage one another as they were all so excited to be a part of the parade.

I hope we can keep this event going for a long time. With Santa Fe Hills Nextdoor and other neighbors helping get the word out, I hope to be able to reach more people each year. It’s great to hear how much fun the families had, being a part of the parade. Getting involved like this makes the holiday extra special for me and my family.
