All Breed Luratics Lure Coursing (Public Participation)
3 Sessions, 10:00am – 4:30pm
LURATICS / LCCSD Coursing Club of San Diego is San Diego’s Only All-Breed Canine Lure Coursing Club! Luratics is the best place for your dogs to have fun doing what comes naturally to them. Lure coursing is a fast-paced, fun and safe K9 chase sport. Dogs chase after a “bunny” lure (usually a white plastic bag) that’s attached to a line and a small machine, and run by the lure operator. The dogs run in a fenced, grassy field and can go as fast or slow as they want – they literally can’t resist! Luratics is open to all dogs: purebreds, mixed breeds, any size or shape – all are welcome here! At our regular fun runs, dogs usually run the course individually, however, in some cases housemates or buddies will be allowed to run together. Please check with Pat the day of the event if you would like to do this. Bring your dogs out for the time of their lives – lure coursing with Luratics!

Barn Hunt (Public Participation)
3 Sessions, 10:00am – 4:30pm
Dogs have an innate desire to hunt, regardless of what they were bred to do. Events are held inside or outside in a barn-like setting in a fenced in area. The maze course uses hay or straw bales stacked up to create climbing and tunneling obstacles for dogs to navigate through. The goal is to find the rat hidden in the hay.

We at Luratics don’t really have any rats so we’ve added a twist to the standard Barnhunt routine: instead of a live rat, we put a scented lure on a line and run it through the maze of hay bales. To make the hunt more challenging, empty rat bedding areas are also hidden in the hay. Dogs need to move through tunnels and climb hay bales to find the actual lure, which can also move since it’s on a line.

The object of the sport is to have fun whether you are participating or just watching. It’s a sport that celebrates the working ability of dogs and the bond and communication between a dog and his owner. Barn Hunt doesn’t require a lot of running on your part or extensive training for your dog. Barn Hunt is a good outlet for excess energy and provides stimulation for the mind as well.

Flyball Demonstrations
10:00am, 12 noon, 2:00 and 4:00.
Flyball is a wild and furry relay race for dogs. We are a group of people with dogs who like to have fun with other people with dogs, and because the dogs have input, there are always balls involved! Flyball races match two teams of four dogs each, racing side-by-side over a 51 foot long course. Each dog must run in relay fashion down the jumps, trigger a flyball box, releasing the ball, retrieve the ball, and return over the jumps. The next dog is released to run the course but can’t cross the start/finish line until the previous dog has returned over all 4 jumps and reached the start/finish line. The first team to have all 4 dogs finish the course without error wins the heat! We believe that all dogs should have the opportunity to learn, excel and have fun. We believe that the sport of Flyball is one of the best ways to achieve this. We allow barking, pulling, jumping, running and all manner of dog stuff! Participating teams include…
