Oak Oasis Preserve in Lakeside Open for Camping

Oak Oasis Preserve Campground in Lakeside is now offering family camping once a month. Normally the campground is available to youth groups only, but due to popular demand families will be able to reserve a camping site from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. for this next Saturday, March 21, and 6:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 18.

No camping experience is required. In fact, rangers will be available to help first-time campers set up their tents!

A new moon will be out this Saturday – perfect for stargazing. Campers can join park rangers for the Star Party, an ongoing event that is free and open to the public. They can pick out the constellations using the binoculars on hand or bring their own. A telescope is fine too.

Rangers will also lead a night hike to find some bats and help build a fire for roasting marshmallows and campfire songs.

The campsites are $24 each and vary in size. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis. To encourage first-time campers, rangers will send a group email reminding them what to bring for the one-night event. Dogs are welcome too as long as they remain on a leash.

Visitors can bring camp stoves but also have the option of making charcoal fires in the community barbecue area. Three restrooms and a shower are available on site at no charge.

At this point in time you are unable to reserve this campsite onlineTo reserve a Oak Oasis Preserve campsite, call (858) 565-3600.
